Product description:

It was 1961 and a young man from Ethiopia left his house in Sidam and headed to the forests around Work Chalbes near Gedeb in search of his happiness. Young Daniel Miju was single at the time, setting up his coffee and banana farm. He soon found a wife, but followed the local culture and married two other wives. Daniel had many children - thirteen boys and ten girls - and lived to a mature age, then left his land to his sons, one of whom is Alemayehu Daniel.

One of Alemayehua's largest ventures bears his father's name and his message. His father's land was divided between him and his brothers, each receiving just over 10 acres. Here, on this well-watered land, which is shaded by indigenous trees, Alemayehu grows some of the best local coffees you may know.

When Daniel Miju divided his land among his sons, he gave each of them coffee seedlings so that they could grow their own coffee. Alemayehua coffee comes from this source.

Alemayeh's father left behind a family that holds together, even though each brother has his harvest and his land, they all work as one, even taking turns supervising each other's coffee - especially after the cherries have been harvested and dried. During the harvest, Alemayehu recruits 40 to 60 people who make sure that the cherries are harvested in time. When washed, they personally make sure the cleaning is first class. As soon as the cherries are dry, he will take them to Gedebu.

Alemayehua used to sell through a cooperative, but now has its own export license for the second year. He received an award for the quality of his coffee from the local government, and in 2018 one of its lots was sold through the Operation Cherry Red auction, which we also had the opportunity to offer you. Alemayehu and his brothers were thrilled. His only disappointment was that his father, who had died two years ago, had never heard of the auction.

“This gives me a chance to better secure my family, to give my children a better education; and maybe even buy a car and a house in Dila, ”he says,“ I can have my own farm and keep my father's name. ” Alemayehu spends a lot of money paying out temporary aid during the harvest, getting coffee to Gedeb, cleaning, and sending coffee to Addis Ababa - from where his coffee goes to the world. He gets more profit from international sales, which allows him to invest in the necessary equipment, such as a generator and lights, and can raise the standard of living for himself and his family.

"I can't work without her," Alemayehu says of his wife, who prepares food for the workers during the harvest and oversees the farm when Alemayehu travels to Addis Ababa. He is also in charge of preparing organic compost for coffee trees. Alemayehu is the father of eight children - six boys and two girls. "There is no way back, there is only a way forward," he says with a smile.
