This coffee comes from the Monte de Oro farm, located at 1,600 meters above sea level, in the heart of the Acatenango Valley, on the hills of Balam Juyu.
The farm benefits from an optimal climate and very fertile soil, which explains the great complexity of the coffee produced.
The Monte de Oro farm is actually named after the excellent soil fertility.
The coffee is harvested here only after the analysis of the sugar content in the cherries in order to optimize its quality.
The farm, which was originally dedicated to polyculture and breeding, has gradually intensified its coffee production and is now its only activity.
During this period, new varieties and coffee processing techniques were introduced.
The 22-hectare farm currently grows more than five varieties of coffee, which are processed by three different processes and create a wide range of sensory profiles.
Harvesting takes place from December to March. The current production of the farm is less than 29 tons of coffee.
The varieties grown mainly on this farm are Caturra, Maracaturra, Geisha and Anacafe 14 (Catimor).
In 2013, coffee from this farm received the Cup of Excellence award.
